An addiction is a chronic disorder by which individuals are blinded by a substance, or engage in an activity, that gives them an immense amount of pleasure but has become detrimental to their lives. Some common addictions include but are not limited to:
- drug or alcohol abuse
Addictions rob us of the joy and freedom we are created to experience, damaging earthly relationships and responsibilities, and often lead us to feel distanced from God as well.
Recovery from addictions is possible. Through a variety of therapies our counselors help clients analyze the reasons behind their addiction(s), and identify their triggers and what helped them control impulses in the past. Patients also learn coping skills so they can manage the compulsions without relapsing.
When our hearts, minds, bodies, and eyes are not clouded by addictions, we can start living in peace and rediscover the joy of the life God intends for us.
